Photographing your pet
I like to work from good clear
photographs. Make sure your photos capture a good example of your
pet, often people think that because it’s a photo it is a good
representation of their pet, but this is not always the case.
A horse or pet portrait is something to
be treasured for life, so it’s worth taking lots of photos in order
to capture their personality, i.e. ears up looking alert or lying in
their favourite spot, think what you love about them the most and
have a camera on hand!
Also try and get on the same level as
your pet, a photo taken looking down on a dog for example will not
make a good painting.
If you require two or more animals in one
portrait I can work from separate photos, but it would be helpful if
you can supply a photo of them together to get an idea of size and
proportions.
Although a good photo makes life
easier for me, if your pet has sadly passed away and you don’t have
many good photos of them I am always willing to take a look at what
photos you do have. I have done many successful paintings of beloved
pets that are no longer with us.
