Caring for your mushroom

Every mushroom/toadstool is carved from the heart of a solid hardwood log. During the first few months as they dry, they will darken and split. This is a natural process and they will eventually season into a realistic and natural looking form.

During hot dry weather, all of the mushrooms will crack and split and then close up again in the wet weather. To minimise excessive splitting during the first year, place your mushroom in a shady part of your garden and water it regularly or you can soak it in a water butt.

It is advisable to treat your mushroom with a clear wood preservative and a wood oil such as Linseed or Teak.

The painted mushrooms come ready laquered and will benefit from an annual maintenance coat of a clear matt varnish.
